Among the four projects that have obtained the Olympic qualification, men’s and women’s sailing board has always been the dominant project of the Chinese team. In 2008, the Beijing Olympic Games won the gold medal in women’s sailing board and achieved the breakthrough of zero gold medal in Chinese sailing board Olympic Games. Later, Chen Pana won the World Championship and won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In the US World Cup at the beginning of this year, the Chinese sailing team won the men’s and women’s sailing gold medal at one stroke. The women’s 470 project is a potential advantage project of the Chinese sailing team. In the world championships last year, Wei Mengxi/Gao Haiyan locked the Olympic tickets with the sixth place. Although Chinese female players failed to win gold and silver in the Olympic Games, in recent years, the level has been stable in the top eight. Due to the particularity of double points in the medal wheel, all the teams entering the top eight have the strength to compete for medals.
In addition, Zhang Dongyan got an Olympic ticket in the women’s laser Leider project, and the Chinese team in this project also had the strength to enter the top eight.
Zhang Xiaodong, chairman of China sailing Board Association, said in an interview with reporters: “We will strive for more qualifications. Men 470 and men Finns may enter Tokyo after a series of events this year. Relatively speaking, men’s laser level and men’s 49-person level are more difficult. Because the foundation was weak before, it was not easy to get tickets after only two or three years, so we have to continue our efforts.”
Among the newly launched projects, the nokala class hosted by Shanghai Mei Fan has a good momentum. In the Asian Championship that ended recently, China’s nokala 17 team took the top three, this greatly enhanced the team’s confidence in winning the Olympic qualification. In March 2020, the Asian Nacala qualifier will be held in Shanghai, which is also the best chance for the Chinese team to win the Olympic qualification of this project. The goal proposed by nokala 17 team is to try to take another step forward and strive to enter the top eight.
