South American Football Association hopes to fully use VAR in liberator Cup from next year

During the Liberator Cup, the cost of using VAR system in each competition was about 20000 US dollars (1 US dollar was about 6.88 yuan).

Xinhua News Agency, Rio de Janeiro, May 13 (reporter Zhao Yan, Chen Weihua) Asuncion news: Dominguez, president of South American Football Association, said on the 13th, I hope to use the Video Assistant Referee system (VAR) from the beginning of the group match in the Copa Libertadores football match in 2020.

In this year’s Liberators Cup, VAR system will be used from the 1/8 finals. The reason is the shortage of funds.

Dominguez said at a press conference held at the headquarters of South American Football Association in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, that day: “Obviously VAR is very important to the referee, we hope to have sufficient funds to use this system in the group matches from next year.”

The cost of using VAR system in each competition during the Liberator Cup is about 20000 US dollars (1 US dollar is about 6.88 yuan RMB). Currently, there are 29 competitions since the 1/8 finals, if it is used from the group match, there will be 125 games in total.

Dominguez also stressed that this year’s Liberator Cup final will not be held outside South America as last year, and it was only a special case to be held in Madrid last year.

However, from 2019, the final of the Liberator Cup will no longer be divided into two main and away games, but a game will win or lose. This year’s venue will be set as Santiago, the capital of Chile. The final venue in 2020 has now accepted the application.
