Sun Yang will not comment on the international swimming joint statement

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, January 29 (reporter Zhou Xin, Li Jia) on the evening of 28th Swiss time, FINA issued a statement saying that according to relevant regulations, regarding the case and verdict of Chinese swimmer Sun Yang, FINA will not comment and will no longer pay attention to other speculations and rumors.

Sun Yang commissioned a lawyer to issue a statement on January 27, saying that on September 4, 2018, when Sun Yang was tested for extra-competition stimulants, the inspection is considered illegal and invalid because there are many illegal operations including the inspector’s failure to provide qualification certificates during the whole inspection process. The inspection was not completed, and IDTM, the sample collection agency of the doping control examination, submitted a false report to FINA.

On November 19, 2018, FINA held a hearing on this matter in Lausanne, Switzerland. On January 3, 2019, the Fina Anti-Doping Commission ruled that in the decision, it was stated that the doping test performed by IDTM on September 4, 2018 was invalid; According to the FINA anti-doping rules No. 2. Article 3 and Article 2.5 stipulate that Mr. Sun Yang does not violate the rules of doping.

The Statement of FINA on 28th is as follows:

“We have noticed the reports of the Sunday Times and other media on Chinese swimmer Sun Yang. According to the provisions of the FINA anti-doping regulations and the verdict of the Fina Anti-Doping Commission, FINA has no right to comment on this incident. In addition, FINA no longer pays attention to further speculation and rumors about this incident.

FINA has zero tolerance towards the use of prohibited items and methods. FINA goes all out to protect our athletes through a very strong anti-doping program. This work has also been proved to be effective in maintaining the cleanliness of the world championships and the Olympic Games. FINA continued this strict operation mode in Hangzhou, China during the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships (25 meters) in 2018 and will continue in the future, to maintain the integrity of our sport.”
